Montauk Beach House

One block walk to Ditch Plains Beach

If you are into the beach, you will LOVE this house. The house is a one block, barefoot walk to the beach. With 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a great kitchen, an upstairs and a downstairs living room, there is plenty of room for the whole family. There are two bedrooms downstairs and 3 upstairs. You have ocean veiws from the upstairs living room and one of the upstairs bedrooms. My very private, backyard is great for a a BBQ. Of course, my grill is your grill!! For those cool coastal evenings the fireplace is an added bonus.

Ditch Plains Beach (see below)
This is one of the most beautiful and unique beaches in all of Long Island. You can enjoy the best, most consistent surfing in the northeast, explore the senic hiking and biking trails in the nature reserve that travels on top of the cliffs, surfcast off the beach, or sunbath and swim in the crisp blue ocean waters. Sunsets on the cliffs are spectacular, as are evening family bonfires on the beach. A quarter mile down the beach will bring you at the foot of thirty foot cliffs, and all the privacy that you desire.

What else does Montauk have to offer?
Here on the easternmost tip of Long Island is a picturesque retreat at land's end, with gentle rolling hills and steep sand bluffs at the point where the Sound meets the Sea; where fishing fleets, yachts and sailboats ride the tides to the Atlantic Ocean and Block island Sound. Montauk is also a stepping off point to New England, Block Island and Newport, as passenger ferries leave daily from the harbor in Lake Montauk.

Montauk is surrounded by water on three sides and is close to the Gulf Stream which has a great and favorable influence on the local climate. Generally, the temperature is 10 degrees cooler in the summer and 10 degrees warmer in the winter than the Metropolitan area, which has the effect of extending the summer season for all who live in and visit this land's end community.

Surfers travel from far and wide to be challenged by the surf at Ditch Plains, while sun worshippers enjoy the white sands of our ocean and bay coastlines. Windsurfers share beautiful Fort Pond Bay along with colorful sunfish, pedal boats and canoes. Montauk Downs State Park offers tennis courts and world renowned Montauk Downs - Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.

One of the "Fishing Capitals of The World"... Montauk currently holds 30 of the world's records for sport fishing. Local waters abound with tuna, swordfish, marlin, mako sharks, bluefish, striped bass, codfish, porgies, blackfish, flounder, haddock, pollack and tile fish ... the list goes on and on.

For those non-fishing boating enthusiasts, whale watching trips provide opportunities for close encounters with the great leviathans to the deep that abound in the pristine waters off Montauk Point.

For the hiker, horseback rider and naturalist, there are miles of scenic and unspoiled trails in Montauk. There are two large oceanside State Parks: Hither Hills for camping and ocean bathing, Montauk Point State Park for hiking and bird watching of the many and varied species that migrate along the Atlantic "fly-away".

Along with all the numerous outdoor activities a visitor can partake in, there are many historical sights to dive into and explore. The Montauk Lighthouse, the most distinctive and best known structures on Long Island, is just one of them. The Montauk Lighthouse was commissioned by President George Washington in the 1790's, it was the first lighthouse in New York State and is the fourth oldest lighthouse in the United States that is still active. There are 137 steps to the top where the 390,t390 candlepower beacon rotates every five seconds and can be seen for 19 nautical miles. The lighthouse was leased by the Montauk Historical Society in 1987 and is now open to the public for tours. A museum and gift shop have also been added.

These are just a few of Montauk's attractions. Come, explore, relax, enjoy, and find your own special place in Montauk and make it one of "the best times of your life."
